The Battle of Gallipoli took place on the Turkish peninsula of Gallipoli in 1915 during World War I. A combined French/British operation was formed to capture the Ottoman capital of Constantinople. However, the attempt failed, and it is estimated that 131,000 soldiers died and 262,000 were wounded.
