Kapu-Kulu standard bearer of the Ottoman Empire

Kapu-kulu (or kapıkulu) refers to the standing, professional, and paid troops of the Ottoman Empire's army, primarily in the 16th and 17th centuries. They formed the core of the army and included elite units such as the Janissaries (infantry), artillerymen (topçu), and cavalry units that were directly subordinate to the Sultan.
